LNG is flammable, but it presents a low risk of fire and explosion. LNG vapour is also lighter than air, i.e. in case of leakage, LNG evaporates, rises into the atmosphere and dissipates.

As LNG ships are built under strict international standards and equipped with well-proven storage systems and advanced monitoring devices, they are among the safest and most reliable vessels in the world. Crews of LNG ships also have to take part in special safety trainings and are therefore well prepared in cases of emergency.
